Artist-Hollie Chastian

I think the underlying idea in this artist work is to incorporate patterns with images of people either painted drawn or pasted on. His paintings leave you wondering what he is trying to say because many of the people in his pieces don't have faces.

The artist creates visual coherence by using the same patterns in each piece. You can tell that all the artist pieces go together and they all have an element of mystery.

The artist repetitively uses pattern and shape in his pieces. He also uses the same color scheme in all of his paintings.

I think the artists underlying idea is to incorporate animals and colors using layers. She says that her goal is to explore themes like memory and history. She tries to create luxury in her paintings.

To create visual coherence she uses a lot of layering in each painting. to connect them she also tends to incorporate animals in some way to tell a story.

One of the elements Miranda uses is texture, the layering she uses creates an interesting texture. She also uses shape and tends to use geometric shapes like the triangle in her paintings.

Artist-Greg Hart

I think the underlying idea in this artists work is to create portraits with a new touch from the original picture. He takes old pictures from his family and makes them something new by distorting them and using unexpected colors. He says that each mark he makes means something; the little coiled designs represent familial mazes.

He creates visual coherence in his work by using similar paint strokes and mark making so you can tell that all the paintings are by the same artists. I like the way he sometimes uses coffee to stain the paper and I love the patterns that he uses in some of the paintings because they make the painting more interesting.

I think that Greg Hart uses texture well through out all of his paintings and makes them look like they have depth without have a foreground middle ground and background. He also uses pattern in some of his paintings where there is a coiled white pattern. He has a wide varied of color that is also seen throughout his pieces.

Three Pictures

I didn't feel as rushed as I felt last summer when I was taking pictures. I felt like a lot of the pictures I took this year improved from my pictures last year. The only time I felt a little rushed was when I was deciding what pictures I was going to print out because I waited until the last minute to pick them out.  What I liked most about the project this year was when Sophie and I went to Portland to take pictures.
